Stupendous Saturday

This was a big week for The Lost Jacket with Carla joining the team and the revamp/renewal of a variety of different features (doubling our content didn't hurt either). However, next week will likely be bigger and more important. We aren't done with the revamp and expansion here by a long a shot and we can't wait to show you what's coming next. So stay tuned.

This blog post isn't about The Lost Jacket, Carla or I though. It's about five really awesome blog posts that I read this week (Hoping Carla, will be in this slot next week).

Five Myths of Community Management
I can write about the ins and outs of community until I'm blue in the face. However, Amber Naslund makes me look like a total novice when she writes pieces like this. A must read for anyone involved in community management, community marketing or is trying to integrate community into their business.

Crack the Fishbowl and Flourish
Keith Burtis breaks down the obvious here. But it's a great template to guide two groups of people out of the wilderness: SM professionals who ignore anything beyond their community and street cred and those who don't know what social media is in the first place. Excellent piece. Well worth the read or forward icon wink Stupendous Saturday .

A Social Media Reality Check from the C-Suite I was turned onto BL Ochman by a random comment from Edward Boches this week. How I didn't discover her sooner is a travesty. Concise, edgy and damn witty analysis about social, and PR related issues. She also pwns social media "whatevers". Can't argue with sweet content like that.

Fortune 100 CEOs SHOULD be Social Media Slackers
I'll be honest, I'm getting sick of putting Ryan in these round-ups. However, he just puts out such good material that it would be criminal not to include pieces like this. Ryan raises a damn important question/observation: Would you really want a CEO of a massive company getting sidetracked by tweeting? I found that this video also wrangled withe the same idea: "Has Obama Stopped Using the Internet?"

Will social media burn conferences to the ground?
If they don't change their prices to fit more into the model of a Podcamp? Absolutely. Chris Penn really tackles the unique cost challenges, speaker value, and delves into the ROI of attending a conference. Interesting dialogue that I hope he expands upon in the future. (As he clearly has the background to do so)

Now, go show your love by commenting and participating in the discussions that are already taking place on these blogs. Find any other awesome blog posts this week? I'd love to read them.

Intentional Omission: “Is your Social Media Director qualified?” Olivier's post is fantastic but I already touched on it in an earlier piece this week. Go read it if you haven't though.
