If I had to pick one essential business tenet to live by it would have to be transparency. It encompasses honesty, fairness, and a willingness to learn from your mistakes. I have learned so much from a willingness to share, be open and just be honest about what I was doing, who I was working for and how I wanted to gain your business.
So in the interests of transparency here goes: Recently, I had a tremendous opportunity at a start up in Chicago called crowdSPRING. A great company, led by great people (@Mike_Samson and @RossKimbarovsky on twitter) these guys are setting out to rewrite the way business is done on the internet...and in the process are turning "crowdsourcing" into a business model (not just a buzz word).
So needless to say I was pumped...(beyond pumped even) to get a job working at cS as their Community Marketing Manager. I was essentially getting paid to be myself...which is probably the best job anyone could ask for. So I moved halfway across the country and began working for a great company. It was all I had hoped for and more. Ideas were listened to, strategies were forged and camaraderie was built by me both at the company and the community at cS. Sounds great...but why am I back in Boston you ask?
Unfortunately...I had a personal issue come up while working at cS that I had to deal with ASAP. This sucked (hard), I had to move back to Boston, MA to be closer with my family for this process. Fortunately, the issue has been handled (the worst seems to be over) and I'm happy to be closer with my family and my friends back here in Beantown (not to mention I now have NESN again). However, now begins the building process of looking for another job, and reapplying myself to the space after a two week absence.
Fortunately crowdSPRING is in the able hands of Emil Wisch (@crowdSPRING) who will be able to guide the cS community in the best way possible.
Thanks for those of you that have hit me up on Twitter, Email and IM with words of support. The good news for those of you in Boston? I'm looking for a job, I'm focused, and ready to kick ass in the marketing/SM world again.
Oh...and resume plug: LinkedIN
