As a millennial, the first real experience I had with the internet came during the hey day of AOL. With this new bastion of freedom thrust upon me and seemingly limitless potential to explore the "world wide web" all I needed was a handle. My choice: Kingstuart7. Sadly, that handle lasted me until my senior year in college (I have since made the switch over to Lostjacket and Stuartfoster)
Today I asked the Twitterverse what their first screen names had been:
@Overmind128212 VTBKOOLKID
@DonaldSavant Bowlduck01
@flamyngo ninnjaturttle
@zerhynn IMDB5000
@mollieann crunk22m
@SarahFowler SHL16
@combustingboy cLuNkY26
@TheOtherJeff Jstolarcyk
@recklessstudio cbsnoopy99
@megan_maguire moogotnic
@AGainer weezer6651
@NickKelly GBftbl12
What's interesting here is to see the development (or lack of development) in these screen names. As we develop our skills in promotion we are more likely to use a more recognizable screen name to assert our identity. The new screen names I chose when I made the leap into the business world were my personal brand: The Lost Jacket and my name Stuartfoster. It's interesting to look at how we evolve as communicators over time. Those of us who evolve inevitably become more successful because our message was more coherent. When it comes down to it...it's still all about copy writing.

Call me curious. Suppose you created a profile on match.com, an online dating site, tomorrow. What would you call yourself? Does there come a time when transparency is not self-serving?
I'd call myself my name: Stuartcfoster, I think that transparency especially when it comes to a dating site. If you form a relationship with someone on that site shouldn't the transition from online to real life be easier rather then harder?
Stuartfoster, I totally agree with your point of view.
great article!, grats for u site
