sp903 Wing 2 Super Awesome Saturdays (SAS)

The weekend is here along with my first weekly recap of my favorite posts. I’m officially naming these posts SAS, or our Super Awesome Saturdays. My Google Reader is a little different than Stuart’s so I’m glad we have a mix of posts and ideas to share. So be on the look out for some more SAS in the weeks to come.

Help! I’m Trapped in a Social Media Position
It’s short and sweet, but Peter Kim gets right to the point: companies need a social business redesign.  It can be difficult having an internal social position right now, but business and media are slowly getting up to speed with the capabilities of social.

ReTweets Change Everything
Dan Zarrella puts his retweet research in context with a larger overview of the importance of contagious ideas. No product or service can manifest without a contagious idea. Although retweets are a small idea, they have profound impact on the ability to observe how information is spread. Much more to come from him and Hubspot in the future.

Email: the First Social Network
On Thursday I saw Jeremiah ask via Twitter “What is the first social network you used?” In a corresponding post, Jeremiah claimed that email- not Facebook, Friendster, etc- was the first social network. Email and the social networks we know today have the same functions: ability to have profiles (signatures in email), ability to connect, and the ability to do something useful. He also says that the email and social networks worlds are merging quickly.

Why Charging For Digital News Baffles Me

There are similarities between the ideas Bud Caddell discusses in this post and what Zarrella said in his post this week. In our time, social currency online is measured by ideas and information and the ability of that information to spread. Restricting the spread of that idea (in this case, subscribed, paid content) won’t sustain long-term because users will eventually find content from other sources and move on. If you haven’t checked out Bud’s blog or famous Happiness in Business Venn Diagram- you should. He always makes me think.

Tumblr Stream: Tuxurism
Finally, because I am a tumblr junkie, I had to include a stream. Follow the Texturism stream by Maura McGovern if you are interested in photography, fashion and design. It’s fabulous.
